The usual pessimistic ECU fans are lamenting the NIL as an on going complaint. It's become the convenient excuse for everything related to failures. What's interesting is their disregard for the fact
that ECU possesses more resources and support compared to numerous other
Division 1 basketball schools – nearly 250 schools, many of which have landed experienced
transfers in the NIL era. Here is the first year of NIL and all the transfer I identified that spring and how they did.
When they indulge in self-pity and offer excuses, they conveniently omit the fact that ECU holds an advantage over roughly two-thirds of college basketball programs. Moreover, ECU was among the initial 40 or so schools to establish an NIL collective, all while complaining about schools with perceived advantages.
Let's take a look at some standout transfers we identified this offseason and how they are performing as well at places with similar or much worse resources and support as ECU.
One guy started in the SEC and went to the Citadel. You have to march in the mornings there when it's 30 degrees and people are making excuses for ECU? McNeese State's has a 1st year coach that makes makes 200k and they got 8 quality transfers this offseason and are currently 54th in NET. McNeese State one of the poorest schools in D1 with the 300th largest basketball budget. Are we to believe they had significant NIL? Yet again there were 4 guys I listed coached by members of ECU staff at other places that were transfers this year. Daniel Batcho is one from Texas Tech. Duncan Powell played in Minges for NC A&T last year. There were so many opportunities and then players like Justin Wright that aren't listed who are also having success and solid.
