The typical glass half-empty ECU fans are crying about the NIL now everywhere. It's the new shiny excuse. Convenient that they ignore the fact ECU has more resources and support than hundreds of other schools in D1. Around nearly 250 and hundreds of whom got transfers last year and will again that could have helped ECU. They always will leave that part out when poor-mouthing and excuse-making that ECU has an advantage over about two-thirds of college basketball and was one of the first 40 or so schools to form an NIL collective while whining about the schools with advantages.
There is an entire list from last year of all the players I identified over the summer going to low major nobodies even with the NIL in place. Nearly all crushed it. I'm going to go ahead and start a new list here, so every time they whine and pull out their new excuse victim card we can remember there are and will be plenty of schools with less, paying less, getting it done.
It's still super early right now. There are less than 150 out of the 1200+ transfers that ahve even committed so far. Even early there are other teams are getting it done while ECU fans whine and go ahead and lay that yellow brick road of excuses down.

How will ECU ever expect to compete with schools like that. ECU can roster guys that clearly can't help instead while I'm sure the next favorite excuse will be pulled, "Could they Help ECU". Yeah I think so much more than the freshman.
BTW here is a former Tennessee player I'd gladly take that just hit the portal.

Howard lands a former Ivy League Player of the year.
Before anyone uses the excuse it's grades as they so often do to try to explain these HBC examples like this, he has a degree from Harvard. He probably has a 2nd one considering he's been in college since 2016 and is 26 freaking years old November 5th.
This is just another classic example as to why trying to compete with freshmen is so damn stupid when you have players like this still in college with eligibility in the Covid era not only this coming year but next year as well.
Seth Towns College Stats | College Basketball at Sports-Reference.com

8-8 Update
I haven't followed the transfer portal in months, but I noticed former AAC freshman of the year Alexis Yenta committed to Fairfield.
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/alexis-yetna-1.html
I mean, I guess it's better to sign a freshman than a 25 year old former AAC freshman of the year who also averaged 8 and 5 with a 17.1 PER in the Big East on an NCAA team. Can't compete with Fairfield I guess with all that NIL cheese.
Also former ECU target Josh LeBlanc 24 year old went NON D1
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/josh-leblanc-1.html
He was an All Big East freshman and averaged 9.1ppg, 7.3rpg, 1.1bpg with a 22.5 PER on an NIT team.
These two also going non D1
