The one thing more annoying than all the Dooley revisionist
historians are the people that pull the excuse that this team is
"young" or this season always had to be bad. That's not true in today's
college basketball free agency. ECU choose to go into a season willingly with this mix of underclassmen and
lack of proven transfers. There are already vastly improved teams
like 342 NET USM last year that are 8-0 with a win over Vandy and Liberty. This is after USM added
multiple quality transfers including one I listed this summer in this exercise.
ECU's
staff picked this path when there were 1800+ transfers out there, many covid 5th year seniors with college basketball older than ever. Some transfers I didn't list from Mercer, Presbyterian, Hampton, and
ODU that would have looked great in an ECU uniform. Ben Stanley had averaged 22ppg 7rpg in D1 going to ODU for example. You can bring Debaut back to play a minor role, but those type of players were out there going to teams we have played.
These are the transfers going to low-end mid and low majors this summer I listed.
Here are their current averages and PER's at their new schools.
There were a few players that are injured or didn't make it to school as always, but that's every player that has played this season at a mid major I wrote up this summer. I don't see a single player I still wouldn't take right now. All of them are more productive than most ECU players, even while the schedule has been weak here so far.
