This is an area that the new staff deserves credit after the last two's complete lack of effort. It's been over a decade since ECU has even attempted an event of this nature for basketball. That alone is ridiculous when ECU has double or triple the fans of some schools that have had them every year. While it's not the level of engagement of Mack McCarthy, I don't expect that level of engagement from any coach. McCarthy with his weekly letters (pre-social media), helping to found a fan club of supporters, radio host fill-ins /regional spots, and preseason kickoffs was above and beyond. He was built for that having his own radio show as a hobby and connections.
The new staff is at least trying and that's enough after the last two staffs couldn't even update their Twitter account much less run the players out there for a dunk show for an hour. As young as this team is I think it helps to get under the lights in front of an actual crowd in Minges. It would be great if they played an exhibition game as well, but I can understand not wanting to show your cards this year.Good job on this event regardless. Hopefully, a few students come out for the shirts and enjoy their time and show up for some games and become lifelong fans. If you don't try it's certainly not helping. Thumbs up for the effort.
